How To Install Composite Decking?

Composite Decking Installation

WPC composite decking is the domain of the flooring market in the future days. Unifloor is a specialized composite decking manufacturer and supplier in China, providing you with multiple products. Here’s how to install composite decking:

Before you start:

Firstly, please clean the ground to make it dry, flat, and clean. Then if there are construction industry regulations or local regulations, please install them in accordance with the regulations.

Tools that may be needed.

  • An electric drill is a tool that needs to be used in the installation process. Because the plastic wood material is brittle, when fixing the floor and keel of this material, the electric drill must be used to guide the hole first, and then screw in the dart wire to fix it, instead of directly nailing, Otherwise, the material may be nailed.
  • During installation, common woodworking tools are also required. During the construction process, it is best to use labor protection gloves for installation.

Accessories will need:

Matching Accessories
  • -Never dump wood materials when unloading.
  • -Store on a flat surface and cover with non-translucent material.
  • -When carrying wood planks, carry on edge for better support.
  • -Refer to installation instructions for additional guidelines on each product.

Care and Handling Guidelines For WPC Composite decking

To minimize scratches, nicks, cuts, and grooves, and preserve the beauty of wood decking.

Follow these guidelines:

  • -Do not slide decks against each other when moving them. When removing them from the unit, lift the decks and set them down.
  • -Do not slide tools or drag equipment across the top of the decks during construction.
  • -Keep the surface of the decks free from construction waste. Tracking dirt and construction debris across the surface of decks contributes to surface scratching.

Important information:

  • -When working with wood products or any building materials, be sure to wear proper clothing and safety equipment.
  • -For all wood products, standard woodworking tools may be used, as per applicable manufacturer’s instructions.
  • -Scrap can be discarded with normal construction debris.
  • -wood has excellent slip resistance wet or dry.
  • -wood has a built-in hidden fastener system and is easy to install wood clips.

Fastening Guidelines

-Use a minimum #8 x 2-1/2” high-quality coated, stainless steel or composite deck screw.

-Pre-drilling is required in cold weather and when within 1-1/2” of the end of the deck.

-Do not use glue or caulk to fasten wood decks or to seal the joint between two decks and any other surface. This will inhibit the natural expansion and contraction of the planks and will impede the drainage of the deck.

Proper Ventilation Is Required

-To reduce moisture build-up from beneath the deck, there must be a minimum of 12” high unobstructed continuous airspace along three sides of the deck to allow for cross ventilation.

This should be located just below the bottom of the deck joist.

-In some limited applications, including decks built against an inside corner, additional ventilation will be required where the deck meets the building. Failure to provide adequate ventilation may result in failure of the deck surface and will void the warranty.

Outdoor Composite Decking Installation Instructions

  • You can save construction time and costs by making a design, and planning to budget the necessary materials according to the design intent of the program. You can choose your own material according to your wishes with more varieties of wood optional, wood construction, and woodworking machinery can be used for cutting, sawing, drilling, and so on.

    1. When you install the decking composite, firstly you should make hardening pretreatment to the ground, and then fix the joist in the hardening ground. We recommend a joist pitch for 35-40cm. Joist spacing can also be shortened as requested.
Max.40cm Step1

2. Consider a 3cm spacing to the building when installing the decking.

Max.3cm Step2

3. The joint kit of composite decking is stainless steel clips. Drilling should be smaller than the diameter of the screw diameter of 3/4 in order to increase the self-tapping screws’ grip on the nails.

Steel Clips Step3

4. Knock the composite decking gently with the application of a rubber hammer during construction to make sure of an equal gap and a beautiful construction surface.

Clip Step4

5. The length of sheet metal will be affected because of the larger construction area. We recommend the section with the 5mm spacing when the cross-section is needed.

Max.5mm Step5

6. You can connect the groove and joist with self-tapping screws if the clips are unavailable for the connection of the joist and decking.

Screws Step6

7. Choose a complementary board to be the edge board according to the size of the joist and decking after completing the construction.
